OUGD504 - A Brief History Of... Website - Religion and Pancakes

Pancakes and Religion

Pancakes are traditionally eaten on pancake day, which is historically/religiously called Shrove Tuesday. It is celebrated by some Christians as a chance to clean the soul and as the last chance to eat what they want before the fasting period of Lent. Pancakes are traditionally the food eaten because they are made from ingredient such as eggs which used to be difficult to come by or expensive to buy. Nowadays people tend to give chocolate or something like that to keep the tradition meaningful, but the tradition of eating pancakes is still very much followed.

Religion and the Internet

When religion and the internet mix with each other you tend to get one of too things; boring looking sites with dry content, or a site that expresses opinions in a bias or sometimes extremist way. Because of the "war against terrorism" that is currently going on and extremist groups like ISIS, any sort of promotion based on religion is something to stay away from, especially on the internet, where people can say what they like with a greater sense of anonymity. So I'm not going to try and draw any links between pancakes and religion in my website.
