OUGD503 - Secret 7 - Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer

Out of the tracks, there were three that I recognised; Sledgehammer, Dead Flowers and Born Slippy, by Peter Gabriel, The Rolling Stones, and Underworld respectively. Underworld has a strange sound to it that would be difficult to represent visually, so I avoided that one. Based on the design of the Secret 7 website and the winners from last year that I saw, they like modern and "conceptual" stuff, and that sort of look really wouldn't suit the Rolling Stones, so Sledgehammer was the one to go with.

Given how iconic and varied the music video is, it leaves the project very open-ended as well, which is good. That said, it should be remembered that the cover is for a CD, not a DVD, and so it shouldn't overly focus on the content of the video.

The song is supposedly about sex, and the intimacy of the perspective of the camera to the face reflects this. That said, the contrast between this and modern music videos where the song is about sex is noticeably different, there is no distasteful innuendo or scantily clad bodies, and subverting this in a modern style could be interesting. The stop-motion and varying styles of movement give it a quirky feel, and the cover should reflect this.
