It was brought to my attention the SEO session and task that a homepage was needed for the website in order to help the SEO.
Without the home page my website functions like this. Where a user automatically sees content. This could cause them to miss-understand the website due to not acknowledging all the content.
Having a home page to tie it all together makes it a lot more functional, as in order for the user to see content, they have to choose what content they want to see, and in doing so they acknowledge that there is other content there that makes up the site.
Bearing this in mind, I decided that my homepage shouldn't show too much content, but enough to keep a user interested in the site. On top of this, I thought it was particularly important that navigation should be clear on this page.
I decided that the homepage will only show the content of the most recent post, as this keeps the site up to date. Given that the homepage will only be showing one post, the space above the banner wasn't needed, so I filled that with images, which implies more content. I also removed the calendar and added links to social networks instead, to build on the interactive nature of the website. I can use the icons in that space on the banner in the blogs as well. I decided that it was more important to have another set of clear links to the blogs than it was to have images linking you to specific posts. I definitely think the homepage is suitable for what it needs to do.
