Today was the final crit for the website brief. I showed my mock ups and spoke about how the UXD session had helped me identify some specific needs of the site, which in turn helped me design the site.
The reaction at the crit was that I needed to change the yellow as it was too bright and was quite an un-natural colour, and the font needed to be changed in the logotype to make it look a bit more ornate.
I started off by looking to change the colour. I experimented with a few web-safe colours, but couldn't find any that i thought worked.
The above colours were about as close as I got to finding an appropriate web-safe colour, so in the end I just used an RGB colour instead (shown below). Below it is it's nearest web-safe colour, and I think the pretty vast difference between the two justifies my use of an RGB colour. The RGB is a lot more neutral than the web-safe one, which helps keep the focus on the images.
I looked at a few websites for upmarket snacks that were a bit more ornate to try and take a bit of inspiration from their typography. On a side-note, three of the four shown use a similar colour background to the RGB colour I chose.
The majority of the logotypes are done in a script font, but one that is a lot thinner and daintier than the one I've used. The one that uses a gothic font has impact because of the amount of space it has around it. I looked into a few web-safe fonts that I could potentially use and decided that I liked Stalemate the best.

I played around with the logotype a bit more and reduced it in size to try and give it the impact that the J'aimes Les Macrons logotype did. After some playing around this is what I came up with by increasing the gap between the logotype and any surrounding border to a minimum of 75px rather than 30px. I'm a lot happier with how it looks now than how it looked before.
I then applied these changes to the mobile version and the 1366x768 site.
