- Absence of God and morals
- A blank slate
- The remains of something broken or disproven
- Cold and emotionless
The ideas of an absence of something sits quite well with the idea of a blank slate, meaning a lot of whitespace.
Showing the remains of something would suggest there needs to be only a small amount of content on the page, logically thinking it would be towards the bottom of the page after it had collapsed or fallen down.
Cold and emotionless lends itself well to the idea of simplicity, possibly sticking to just one colour despite the brief saying two could be used. The colours used should be cold in nature such as white, greys and pale blues.
My understanding of Nietzsche as a person and as an author are the following:
- His ideas were mis-interpreted by Hitler and the Nazi party
- The anti-Christian approach he adopts doesn't sit well with Western society
- He had a troubled childhood
- He lived most of his adult life in isolation
Because of his links with the Nazi party, symbolism in general needs to be avoided as people who aren't aware of the reasons for his link to the Nazi party might be of the opinion that a swastika may be the most appropriate symbol to use rather than anything I use. Avoiding this misrepresentation is really important.
Given his troubled childhood the cover should try and make you feel somewhat uncomfortable in some way in the same way that Nietzsche's childhood made him uncomfortable with the moral values he was brought up with.
His isolated adult life should be represented by his name being on the cover in a space of its own, far away on the page from any other text or imagery.
